LIVMØDRE
An ensemble piece by
Mamelukk Dance Company
The female body changes in a natural cycle every month, and through major transitions such as becoming a mother.
Five female dancers explore how these transitions can be thematised in the beat of the Halling dance.
Is it possible to express some of the most feminine aspects of life through a dance that has always been developed on the terms of men?
Through a creative process centered around menstruation, ovulation and pregnancy, we have delved into torn abdomens
and celebrations of femininity and womanhood. The result is a new expression of traditional dance that presents
a brutal, raw and honest picture of life as a woman, and as a female Halling dancer.
